Humanitarian Relief Operations Expert

This course teaches students how humanitarian relief is provided to refugees and victims of war and natural disasters. The course begins with a history of humanitarian relief and highlights the development of humanitarian action in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and various international humanitarian organizations. The principles of intervention, including respect for at-risk populations such as women and children and the importance of international humanitarian law, are then explored. Critical management techniques for humanitarian emergencies, refugee camps, and community health care are also covered. The course concludes with sustainable solutions to humanitarian crises, including topics such as freely consented repatriation, asylum, conducting elections, and the establishment of civil institutions.
